Golf stars hit off of a skyscraper

(CBS) - Golf stars Annika Sorenstam and Briny Baird played their most unusual round of golf Monday...on top of a skyscraper in New York.

They played with U.S. Veteran Don Vickery, the first and only double amputee class a member of the PGA of America.

Each player hit ten floating golf balls from the rooftop of a 40 story building in an attempt to reach a floating bulls-eye target in the East River.

It was all for a great cause.

The money raised goes to all the amputee soldiers that were wounded in war.

A Co Antrim golf goods company has won international orders worth more than £200,000 after it took part in a major merchandise show in Florida.

The award-winning MD Golf exhibited its Seve Ballesteros brand of golf equipment at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in February. The Seve range was developed under a four-year licence agreement with the Spanish golfer.

Michael Morton, managing director of MD Golf, which is based in Antrim, said: "Being able to exhibit at PGA was a great opportunity to access key buyers from around the world, but without Invest NI's support it would not have been possible for us.

"The show was absolutely incredible and we had enquiries about our products from all over the world, which resulted in firm orders from Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Korea and potential deals with distributors in Hawaii, Philippines, Taiwan the Caribbean, South America and India."

MD Golf, which secured orders worth £212,000 after the Florida trip, was set up in 1996 and employs 12 people. It is set to recruit an export logistics manager to support its export drive and plans to launch a new range of products.

John Hood, Invest NI's acting director of engineering and business services, said: "MD Golf's agreement with Seve Ballesteros gives it a strong platform on which to build its brand and secure international sales.

"To fully exploit this, the company is delivering a focused international marketing programme and key to that was exhibiting at Orlando."
