Trump golf plan director leaves

Posted: 14 May 2010 04:09 AM PDT

The project director of Donald Trump's planned Aberdeenshire golf resort has left his post with the company.

Neil Hobday said he had left to pursue other business interests after five years helping to develop the Menie estate near Balmedie.

Mr Hobday told BBC Scotland the move had nothing to do with a recent on-camera row he had with local property owner David Milne.

Mr Milne is refusing to sell his home to the Trump Organisation.

Their row happened amid angry scenes at a public exhibition of the drawings and detailed masterplan for US tycoon Mr Trump's £1bn golf resort in March.

Mr Milne and other families who live on land wanted by the Trump Organisation have said they are living under the threat of possible compulsory purchase orders.

Mr Milne was told to "clear off" by project director Neil Hobday.

The masterplan will be considered by Aberdeenshire Council later this year.

Golf joins the Gulf at Samui Regatta

Posted: 14 May 2010 12:44 PM PDT

The Sawadee.com Regatta 2010, due to be sailed off the tropical island resort in June this year, has added a new attraction. Or, if one could be forgiven the pun, for one day the huge crowd expected as participants and supporters will swap the Gulf competition for a Golf competition.

The venue will be the Santiburi Samui Country Club - splendid championship links, landscaped on a mountain in Koh Samui.

Each of the 18 holes on this par-72 course has its own unique character and challenges. From steep uphill and downhill slopes to winding fairways that cut into the coconut forest, cliffs and mountain creeks. After the vagaries of the sea, these hazards are par for the fearless sailors.

The course is located just 5 minutes drive away from Santiburi Resort, a villa on beautiful Mae Nam Beach. The tournament, played under the Stableford handicap, will begin at 12.30pm on Thursday, June 3rd with a registration fee of 3,500 baht. Trophies and a selection of great prizes will be awarded at the end of the day.

The addition of a golf tournament to the Sawadee.com Regatta greatly enhances the regatta as one of Asia's leading lifestyle and sporting events. As well as a few days of world-class yacht racing, out off Chaweng Beach, the golf will also host a ladies day and combine with the Samui Jazz Festival.

Golfers can register for the tournament directly at: golfreservation@santiburi.com and details about the Santiburi Samui Country Club are at http://www.santiburi.com/HomeGolf.asp; Media Contact for the Regatta and/or the Golf

Crystal Lee makes history with third Bergen County girls golf championship

Posted: 14 May 2010 12:08 PM PDT

ROCKLEIGH – Crystal Lee's extensive résumé now features her becoming the first three-time winner of the Bergen County girls golf championship.

The senior from Mahwah rallied down the stretch to shoot 2-over-par 74 at Rockleigh Golf Course on Thursday and win the 14th championship by one stroke.

Lee played her final four holes at 1-under, courtesy of a pair of birdies, to climb past Demarest senior Esther Park. Lee did not know where she stood in relation to Park, because they were in different groups in the afternoon shotgun event.

"I'm surprised," Lee said of becoming the first three-time winner, "because there are a lot of other great players, like Esther."

Strength in numbers enabled Immaculate Heart to repeat as team champion. The Blue Eagles shot a four-player 368 to finish 34 shots ahead of Holy Angels.

Blue Eagles sophomore Christina Paulsen shot 81 to tie for fourth with Ridgefield senior Ji Hyun Noh. Junior Yeo Hye Yoon shot 87 to finish sixth, and sophomore Mary Tabatneck shot 92 to finish ninth. Junior Olivia Matteis shot 108.

"Of course, I'm very happy," Immaculate Heart coach Jim Stayton said. "Christina played an outstanding round. Yeo Hye played wonderfully and she's getting better and better every round she plays. And even though Mary and Olivia didn't play their best round of the day, they held it together."

"I think we played extremely well," Paulsen said. "We didn't start out the season strong as a team, and now we have people starting to shoot in the 80s."

Lee's third title pushed her past another Mahwah standout, Jeannine Mondesando, who won County titles in 2001 and 2002. Later this month, Lee hopes to join Mondesando on the list of State titlists.

Lee putted well and had a quartet of birdies to go along with her six bogeys. Her longest putt was a 20-footer.

Lee won last year's title at Darlington going away with a 73 that was six shots better than Park. Lee and Park were a level above the field Thursday, and Paramus Catholic senior Hannah Kim was third with 80. Kim also was third last year with 80.

Park hit the ball extremely well en route to her 75 and second consecutive second place. She estimated she missed six putts of 4 to 8 feet, so a couple more putts and she could have won it.

"I hit everything in the fairway," said Park, who had one birdie, "I just couldn't make any birdie putts."

Lee made more putts, and that was the history-making difference.

Leonia sophomores Yury Higuchi and Jenny Kwon won the nine-hole scramble with 36. Ramsey sophomore Hailee Valtin and junior Kayla O'Neill were runners-up with 38.
