| Knock golf plans to be examined (BBC News) Posted: 11 Mar 2010 06:47 AM PST | The assembly's environment committee has voted to examine the planning process surrounding the Knock Golf Club development. Thursday's vote reverses a previous decision to close down an investigation into how permission was granted to build houses at the club. SDLP, Sinn Fein, Ulster Unionist and Alliance members all agreed to overturn last month's decision. It had been pushed through by members of the DUP. The SDLP's John Dallat told the committee that the controversial planning application - which saw permission granted for several hundred houses to be built on a green belt site despite breaching planning guidelines - had serious consequences for the whole community. He complained the DUP had called him sectarian and morally corrupt just for asking questions. The DUP's Peter Weir suggested the motivation for the investigation was that his party leader and MP for the area Peter Robinson had supported it. Ulster Unionist Roy Beggs refused DUP demands that he withdraw his comment that it was underhand to push last month's decision through when other committee members were absent. | Fortune Sells Cobra Golf to Puma (Zacks.com via Yahoo! Finance) Posted: 11 Mar 2010 05:42 AM PST Fortune Brands Inc. (
With the sale, Fortune Brands intends to concentrate its golf business on its leading brands – Titleist and FootJoy. While Titleist is the numero uno ball in golf, FootJoy is the leading brand in golf shoes and gloves. Titleist, the flagship golf club brand of Fortune Brands, generated the lion's share of sales in the golf club category and registered strong sales in 2009, when the overall golf club market declined due to the global recession.
The acquisition of the Cobra brand would enable Puma to provide a full range of products in the golf category, including golf equipment, footwear, apparel and accessories. Fortune Brands will continue to provide production, distribution, field sales and customer service to Puma during the transition period until the completion of the transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Although the financial terms were not disclosed, Fortune Brands anticipates the sale to be dilutive by approximately two cents to 2010 earnings per share before a one-time gain on sale of approximately five cents. The transaction is expected to be completed by the second quarter of fiscal 2010.

| Golf ball fractures taxi passenger's skull (The Age) Posted: 11 Mar 2010 12:09 PM PST A woman was hospitalised with a fractured skull and police have a mystery on their hands after a golf ball rocketed through the open window of a taxi at 2am in Melbourne's south-west. The 38-year-old Sanctuary Lakes woman was in the front seat of the cab with her window down on Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard, Sanctuary Lakes, on February 28, when the ball struck her temple. The ball was travelling with such force it fractured her skull. A police spokeswoman said it was unknown from where the golf ball had come. Investigators did not know if it was from the nearby golf course, from a back yard or somehow ''fired into the air'' by local kids. The woman was taken to Werribee Hospital and later rushed to St Vincent's Hospital where she was treated until being released last night. Police, who said they do not know how the golf ball ''took flight'', are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
