DORAL, Fla. (AP)—Ernie Els was in the lead and off the golf course, and he wasn't sure which made him feel better.

Rushing to finish as dark clouds gathered over the Blue Monster, Els made one last birdie for a 6-under 66 and a one-shot lead over Robert Allenby before heavy rain temporarily halted play Friday in the CA Championship.

Eighteen players had to wait nearly three hours before they could resume the second round. When it finally ended, Els had his first lead after any round on U.S. soil since he won the Honda Classic two years ago.

He was at 10-under 134, courtesy of three straight birdies early in his round, when his shotmaking was supreme, and how he held it together when the wind and weather changed quickly and dramatically.

Allenby was tied for the lead until a three-putt from 50 feet in rain so strong he could barely see the flag. The bogey gave him a 67 and will put him in the final group with Els on Saturday.

Charl Schwartzel got up-and-down for par behind the 18th green when the round resumed to finish off a 70. He was at 7-under 137, along with Bob Hope Classic champion Bill Haas, who had a 66. Padraig Harrington (68) and Soren Hansen (69) were 6 under, while defending champion Phil Mickelson (69) was six shots out of the lead.

Puerto Rico Open

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (AP)—Skip Kendall topped the Puerto Rico Open leaderboard at 5 under after nine holes when first-round play was suspended because of darkness in the rain-delayed PGA Tour event.

Heavy morning rain suspended play just 20 minutes after the first tee time and the round didn't resume until 4:35 p.m. Downpours also forced the suspension of play Thursday, when 6.6 inches fell at oceanside Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico.

The 45-year-old Kendall holed a 7-iron shot from 159 yards for eagle on the par-4 10th on Thursday, then chipped in for birdie on the par-3 11th Friday morning. He also birdied the par-4 13th and par-3 16th.

Richard S. Johnson and Kevin Streelman were 4 under. Johnson completed eight holes, and Streelman played seven. John Daly was 1 under through eight.

Women's Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP)—Four-time champion Karrie Webb shot a bogey-free 3-under 70 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead in the Women's Australian Open.

Webb, the Australian star coming off her seventh Australian Ladies Masters title, had a 6-under 213 total on the Commonwealth Golf Club course.

Italy's Giulia Sergas, the second-round leader, bogeyed the final hole for a 75, leaving her a stroke behind Webb—the tournament winner in 2000, '02, '07 and '08.

Defending champion Laura Davies was 4 under after a 71. The 46-year-old English star won the New Zealand Women's Open two weeks ago for her 73rd worldwide title.

Australia's Katherine Hull (72) was 3 under.

MELBOURNE : Karrie Webb put herself in contention for a fifth Women's Australian Open with a three-under round to hit the front after the third round at the Commonwealth Golf Course on Saturday.

The Australian seven-time major winner, backing up from winning last week's Ladies Masters title on the Gold Coast, carded a 70 to ease past halfway leader Giulia Sergas of Italy.

Webb is six-under par 213 overall, one shot ahead of Sergas, who slipped to a two-over par 75.

Defending champion Laura Davies had a topsy-turvy round of two-under 71, but emerged in outright third place at four-under 215.

"I felt like I played really solidly today," Webb said.

"I swung really well, I hit a couple of loose iron shots in the last couple of holes but tee to green was really solid and three birdies and no bogeys around here is a pretty good effort."

Webb said she was not accustomed to playing for such a long stretch and had to remind herself to stay alert during Saturday's round.

"It is the first time in many years I've played four (tournaments) in a row, but I feel like I've got a good one left in me and we'll just see if that's good enough tomorrow," she said.

Davies managed to stay in the hunt and is searching for some consistency in Sunday's final 18 holes.

"I haven't played particularly well the last two rounds but I've got the ball around," Davies said.

"The first round I thought the golf course was pretty easy - five under, no dramas. But the last two days - lots of drama."
