Golf-Asian Tour still keen to work with China despite split (Reuters via Yahoo! Sports)

BEIJING, March 5 (Reuters) - The Asian Tour is still keen to work with Chinese golf despite being dumped in favour of the new OneAsia Tour by the Chinese Golf Association (CGA) last year, according to tour chief Kyi Hla Han.

The CGA became a founder member of the controversial OneAsia before last season, breaking a long association with the Asian Tour, which fiercely opposes the new Asia-Pacific series. "We will continue to engage the CGA in dialogue. It cannot be denied China golf has benefited from the Asian Tour over the past few years," Han told Friday's China Daily.

Chinese golf remained in its infancy, Han added, and what top players the country had produced, former Asian number one Liang Wenchong, trailblazer Zhang Lianwei and Wu Ashun, had all spent time on the Asian Tour. "Liang was invited to play in the Masters, the British Open and World Golf Championship events in 2008 through his Order of Merit win on the Asian Tour while Zhang was also invited to play at the Masters in 2004," he told the paper.

"Wu established himself on the Asian Tour last year while a number of places are given to Chinese players in the final stage of qualifying school.

"We will continue to work with the CGA for the mutual benefits of both the Chinese players as well as our Asian Tour players."

China is seen as the major area of potential growth for golf and sponsors, and tours have been flocking to the country in the last few years hoping to get their slice of the pie.

This week's $2 million Malaysian Open, co-sanctioned by the European Tour, is the third stop of the season on the Asian Tour but their only tournament interests in China now are the $7 million WGC-HSBC Champions and the $5 million World Cup of Golf.

They sanction both of those tournaments as members of the International Federation of PGA Tours.

OneAsia's 11-tournament schedule for 2010 includes three events in China, the season-opening $1 million Chengdu Open and next month's $2.5 million China Open, also co-sanctioned by the European Tour.

"From 2004 to 2007, six tournaments sanctioned by the Asian Tour were played annually in China while five were sanctioned in 2008 which were co-sanctioned and full-field events," said Han.

"This … helped to grow the sport and the careers of Chinese golfers." (Reporting by Nick Mulvenney; Editing by Peter Rutherford; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)

Burglars steal from 60 golf clubs (BBC News)

Posted: 05 Mar 2010 02:56 AM PST

Police investigating 60 burglaries at golf clubs across England by two men who pretend to be players have appealed for fresh information.

The pair have stolen property worth £750,000 in 60 burglaries, including 13 in Lancashire and others in Devon, Somerset, Nottingham and Northumbria.

Police said a Crimewatch appeal in January prompted seven calls and more crimes being linked to the two men.

New CCTV footage of the pair at a club in south Devon has been released.

The images show the two men removing clubs from lockers at the club in Dainton Park, near Newton Abbot. The CCTV images were taken during two thefts on 29 July 2008 and 08 June 2009.

The men targeted Taunton Vale Golf Club in Somerset and Oakmere Park Golf Club in Nottingham in March 2009.

Clubs across Lancashire were targeted between April and September 2009.

Five golf clubs at Hurlston Hall, Ormskirk, Dean Wood in Upholland, Chorley and Ashton and Lea golf club, at Preston, were targeted in one day.

Det Sgt Dave Atherton, of Lancashire police, said: "I am hoping that with these new images, someone will be able to identify these men. They have targeted victims up and down the country and need to be caught.

"The offenders have typically gained access to the clubs during late afternoon into the early evening.

"They have forced lockers and selectively stolen the more expensive clubs so they clearly know what they are doing. It is quite possible that they play golf themselves as they seem to be acutely aware of the protocols and seem confident in the club houses."

One of men is about 5ft 11in (1.8m) tall, well built and in his late 30s or early 40s. He has a shaved head or short light brown or blond hair.

He is usually wearing a golf cap and has small ears, which are similar to "cauliflower ears", common among rugby players or wrestlers, police said.

His accomplice is slightly younger with longer darker hair.

Moose relaxes on Twin Lakes golf course (FOX 12 Idaho)

Associated Press - March 5, 2010 1:24 PM ET

TWIN LAKES VILLAGE, Idaho (AP) - Residents are hoping a young bull moose will move into a safer area after it left a golf course and decided to rest on a nearby driveway.

The moose watched Thursday from the 13th green as groundskeepers prepared Twin Lakes Village Golf Course for its Friday opening.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that the moose then sauntered over to a family's residence and napped through a good part of the day in front of the garage door.
