Giveaways galore!

Parking? Admission? Hey, everything can't be free at the 28th annual Chicago Golf Show, which swings into action Friday at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.

But a free 18-hole round of golf for every attendee courtesy of GolfVisions Inc., which operates 12 courses across the metropolitan area, isn't something to ignore. Nor is a free sleeve of Wilson Staff golf balls to the first 500 people through the door each day, or more than 75 exhibitor raffle prizes given out hourly at the show.

"The Chicago Golf Show knows that Chicago golfers love great value and we're always doing our best to give them what they want," said show operator Tom Corcoran.

The show, the nation's oldest and one of the largest, features more than 300 exhibitors spread throughout the 105,000-square-foot facility offering deals and information on clubs, balls, shoes, apparel, golf trip destinations and more.

In addition to long putt and long drive contests, golfers can check out the Daily Herald Golf Academy Stage, where top IPGA instructors will conduct teaching sessions.

Illinois PGA professionals will provide free lessons to attendees in the One-on-One Teaching areas. Lessons will be given on full swing, short game and putting.

If that's not enough swinging, those who make it over to Chicago's Largest Demo Day can hit the latest clubs from major golf manufacturers including TaylorMade, locally-based Wilson, Mizuno, Tour Edge, U.S. Kids and more.

Golfers can also learn about the advantages of custom club fitting from GreenGrass Clubfitting of Winfield, which has participated in all 28 Chicago Golf Shows.

Tampa Bay golf tour

Tampabay.com/golf is a guide to public courses in the bay area. More than 70 regulation and executive courses are listed broken down by county and price range. The site also has a video review of each course. This week's featured courses: The Tides Golf Course, Rogers Park, Oak Hills Golf Course, Apollo Beach Golf and Sea Club, Plantation Palms Golf Club, and Spring Hill Golf Club.

Quote of the day

"I used to say that Tiger (Woods) could win with a rental set and one eye closed. But he's had a lot of things happen, and it's mostly self-inflicted. He's having to pay the price. He's facing these young guys who are saying, 'Move over, pal. You've had your day in the sun.' I'm sure he'd like to make these young guys eat their words, but he's got to get some confidence back quick." — NBC analyst Johnny Miller

Player of the day

Alexis Thompson, 16, became a footnote in golf history Monday when she defeated Brett Bergeron on the second playoff hole to win the Minor League Golf Tour's event at TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs (her home course). She is just the second woman to win on the tour, joining former Futures Tour player Carrie Dykstra (2004). Thompson, unlike Dykstra, played 94 percent of the yardage of the men and shot 4-under 68 to earn $1,100.

Why do idoit say his putting has let him down.
Putters doesn't let you up or down. The man with the putter in hand is in control. If he plays well good for him, otherwise he plays poorly. He did not putt well.......However, most people in Golf want someone /or something other then thmeselves to blame!!!

Mickelson, yet again in position to dethrone Tiger Woods as the world No. 1, yet again in position to solidify his place atop the world of golf, yet again spit the bit and fell apart, this time in the second round of the Barclays.
This is the 9th time in 4 months!!!!!!! You do the math

This must be the White House fault
