Posted: 05 Aug 2010 06:00 AM PDT

Polara Golf is releasing two new golf balls that will change the game of golf forever. Polara's Self-Correcting Technology™ golf balls reduce those dreaded hooks and slices by up to 75% and fly straighter than any other golf ball available today.

Highpoint, NC (PRWEB) August 5, 2010 -- Polara Golf (www.polaragolf.com) develops products for golfers of all levels who want to enjoy the game more. With their unique dimple design, Polara's Self-Correcting Technology™ golf balls reduce those dreaded hooks and slices by up to 75%. That means golfers play from the fairway, not the rough, woods or the next fairway. Using Polara golf balls is guaranteed to improve the game, increase accuracy and lower the score for every golfer. Polara Golf's mission is to make the game of golf more fun.

The new Polara golf balls are available in two different models. The Polara Ultimate Straight is a 2-piece construction ball with 386 dimples. The Polara Super Straight is a 3-piece construction ball with 386 dimples. With their Self-Correcting Technology™ and unique design, each dimple on these Polara golf balls has a specific purpose in correcting hooks and slices by up to 75%. All Polara golf balls are specifically designed for recreational golfers that want to take advantage of technology improvements and increase their enjoyment of the game of golf.

Making its debut in the Fall of 2010 is the third Polara golf ball, the Polara Ultimate Distance. It is a 2-piece construction ball with 336 dimples that dramatically improves distance with the Polara Absolute-Distance Technology™. With the tungsten-enhanced high velocity core formulation and the optimized extreme-distance aerodynamics, the 2-piece Polara Ultimate Distance golf ball increases driver distance up to 20 yards or longer.

Polara golf balls with Self-Correcting Technology™ were recently tested by Golf Laboratories, the leading independent golf testing laboratory in San Diego, California. The golf robot was set-up to hit balls under several different slice swing conditions. Under all test conditions, the Self-Correcting Technology™ golf balls were demonstrably straighter than two of the most popular balls in golf, validating the claim that the Polara Ultimate Straight and the Polara Super Straight correct hooks and slices by up to 75%.

"We're delighted to introduce golfers to the first of many products that have No Limits other than the laws of physics," said David Felker, PhD, Head of Technology for Polara Golf. "Currently, there is nothing a golfer can purchase that even comes close to correcting hooks and slices, as well as these new Polara golf balls. The Self-Correcting Technology™ of the Polara Ultimate Straight and the Polara Super Straight golf balls will change the game of golf by making it more enjoyable and even speeding up play."

Limited editions of the Polara golf balls, with the Polara 'No Limits' logo are currently available for pre-sale at http://polaragolf.com/polara-golf-balls/.

Golf's latest gripping encounter!

Posted: 05 Aug 2010 06:27 AM PDT

Colourful and innovative grips from Golf Pride and Feeltec have caught my eye in the run-up to the Ryder Cup. While in the past clothing and shoes made especially for the occasion have attracted the spotlight, Golf Pride, the best-selling grip-makers in the business, has introduced two designs to the V-RAD Rivalry putter grip line to reflect the biennial clash of the United States and Europe in October.

The grips feature the smaller shape and lighter weight preferred by TOUR professionals, with a new 'texture and tackiness to enhance feel and durability.'

Golf Pride has also launched purple/black New Decade MultiCompound and white/black DD2 colour options for those looking to grip their irons with a little more perosnalised distinction.

Already available in white, red, sky blue, blue, yellow, orange and green, the New Decade MultiCompound grips feature high-performance rubber, for the lower hand, with cord traction for the upper hand.

The DD2 grips, with a visual thumb placement guide are already available in blue and red (standard sizes) and sky blue (undersize).

Completing the recent newcomers to grips are Feeltec (£10 each), designed exclusively for putters - claiming to feature a durable, ridge-free design with an exceptional tacky and comfortable feel'.
Allegedly, Feeltec putter grips 'perform brilliantly in wet weather', are  'sweat absorbent and perform equally well in hot weather'.

"Golfers will be surprised what a new putter grip can do to their game," says European distributor Paul Steels, who spent more than 20 years on Tour representing Golf Pride and Aldila.

"Feeltec grips are designed to help golfers lower their grip pressure, improve feel and control and development a better, smoother stroke," he says.

The EX Series is available in black, grey, blue, red, orange and brown, (with thumb alignment graphics) and oversize, midsize pistol and standard paddle.

With the Feeltec Marble series every grip pattern is unique and comes in the standard size and in four colours (orange/white, red/white, green/white and blue/white). The Hawaiian Series has a laser-engraved flower pattern available in purple, pink or blue.

Golf: Firestone offers Woods his latest best chance

Posted: 05 Aug 2010 03:29 AM PDT

The World Golf Championships are back, and so is Tiger Woods, who takes his 2010 golf redemption tour to the friendly confines of Akron to defend his WGC-Bridgestone Invitational title this week at the South Course of the Firestone Country Club, a course he has owned for more than a decade.

In allegorical terms befitting Woods' post-scandal search for existential meaning, not to mention victory, his return to the place where he has won seven of 10 times can be likened to that of some penitent wanderer looking for home. The key he has tried seven times since early spring has failed to open doors that once swung open wide at familiar places such as Augusta National, Pebble Beach and the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.

Now, he is approaching a friendly gate guarding 7,400 yards of sylvan corridors and slick greens that run like polished steel. It is a place, he said last year, that evokes his childhood.

"Ever since I was a little boy, my dad and I would always play tree-lined golf courses, where it's the older style of golf course, not elephant burial grounds," he said of his fondness for Firestone. "They're just straightforward, right in front of you. I've always loved golf courses like that. They're just so defined."

Firestone, then, will bring the 34-year-old Woods' season into high definition. If the tumblers do not turn in the lock there — where he has never shot a round higher than 71, where he is 103 under par in 10 appearances since 1999 with a stroke average of 67.5, where even in losses, he has finished second once and fourth twice — then his search for his first victory of the year takes on more urgency next week in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.

Woods' seven wins at Firestone, and his seven at Torrey Pines Golf Course (six Buick Invitationals, one U.S. Open), are the most by any professional at any one course. Sam Snead won a record eight Greater Greensboro Opens at two courses from 1938 to 1965, but it is Snead's career record of 82 professional victories that more interests Woods, who is stuck on 71.

Could there be a more-hospitable place for Woods to change the subject back to his stalking of that record, as well as Jack Nicklaus' 73 career victories and record 18 major championships, which Woods covets most?

Probably not. But Woods will have to take his best stuff to what seemed like a preordained annuity as recently as last year, when he shot 65-65 on the weekend to win his fourth straight WGC-Bridgestone, by four strokes.

The field of 80 players includes 28 who are in their 20s, many of them hungry, including 24-year-old Anthony Kim, back in the picture after successful thumb surgery and playing competitively for the first time since the Quail Hollow Championship in May.

The only recent comments that Woods made about returning to a place that makes him as comfortable as any other golf course in the world were two sentences on his website: "It's one of the best courses we play all year. Everything is right in front of you."

The sentences are fitting, particularly the second. What is left of the 2010 season is right in front of Woods, starting this week, in the place named for the Greek city of Akros, which means summit or pinnacle. The tie to the ancient Greek also carries some symbolism.

Since his return to the game at the Masters, Woods has worn the hair shirt he fashioned for himself. His fall from grace last year in a sex scandal, which precipitated a self-imposed absence from this season's first three months, has included lost endorsement deals worth millions and moments of flailing and failure, such as missing the cut at Quail Hollow and withdrawing from the Players Championship in the third round because of neck problems.

He had tantalizing brushes with success at the Masters and the U.S. Open, finishing tied for fourth in each, and has endured ridicule for his admitted transgressions while the breakup of his marriage has been played out in public.

His most-recent appearance in a World Golf Championship event was his public confession at high noon, televised worldwide by broadcast and cable networks, that interrupted the Accenture Match Play Championship in mid-February. Now, he stands on a precipice trying to restart his golf life.

This could be the week. Or it could be another step on a winless journey with which Woods has had no previous experience so late in a season.

Either way, the tournament will certainly not be just another limited-field, $8.5 million, no-cut cash cow looking for dramatic tension. Genuine drama it should have in abundance.
