For the AJC

With three major championships in the books, former Georgia Tech star Matt Kuchar remains in eighth place in the U.S. Ryder Cup team standings. Kuchar has a 96-point lead over Jeff Overton for the final automatic spot. Kuchar tied for 27th at the British Open and made the cut in all three majors this year.

Duluth's Stewart Cink has slipped to 13th on the points list and could be in danger of not making the team. He's played on the last four Ryder Cup teams. Cink tied for 48th in his defense of the Claret Jug. Other Georgians worth watching in the running for the Ryder Cup team include Bubba Watson (No. 16), Zach Johnson (No. 20) and Jason Bohn (No. 22).

Players earn one point for every $1,000 won, with points being doubled for the PGA Championship next month. The top eight on the points list receive automatic spots on the team and captain Corey Pavin is allowed to make four choices. The Ryder Cup will be played Oct. 27-Nov. 3 in Wales.
